Implementing HDR on Windows 2012 R2 Servers
Posted in 2017
A user setting up HDR between two Windows 2012 R2 servers running IDS 12.10.FC8 completed the backup/restore and onmode -d steps, but the pair never connected: both online logs reported "Cannot connect to" the partner and DR turned off. Replies pointed at connectivity/configuration rather than HDR itself: the sqlhosts service field must be a port number or services-file entry (the poster had quoted IP addresses, later clarifying he used port 50005), identical sqlhosts entries for both servers on each machine, and mutual trust via hosts.equiv so each instance can be reached without a password. It was also suggested to prove connectivity with dbaccess in both directions before initializing HDR. No confirmation of a fix is recorded in the thread.

Hello Friends,
Need A Help on Immediate basis.
We are implementing HDR(High Availability Data Replication) on Windows 2012 R2
Server.
Steps done:
1) Two new Windows 2012 R2 Servers.
IDS 12.10FC8 installed and created the instance manually using Server Instance
Manager.
Server A details :
DBSERVERNAME : hdr_primary
Host Name : winhdr
port number : 199.166.155.195
Server B details :
DBSERVERNAME : hdr_secondary
Host Name : winhdr2
port number : 199.166.155.196
2)We have only one instance with one database in Server A(Primary).
No database in Server B (Secondary).
3)We have made changes required for HDR in ONCONFIG, Sqlhosts file on both
server.
ONCONFIG parameters Server A:
DBSERVERNAME hdr_primary
ROOTPATH C:\\\\IFMXDATA\\\\hdr_primary\\\\rootdbs_dat.000
ROOTSIZE 204800
DRAUTO 0
DRINTERVAL 0
HDR_TXN_SCOPE FULL_SYNC
DRTIMEOUT 30
ONCONFIG parameters Server B:
DBSERVERNAME hdr_primary
ROOTPATH C:\\\\IFMXDATA\\\\hdr_primary\\\\rootdbs_dat.000
ROOTSIZE 204800
DRAUTO 0
DRINTERVAL 0
HDR_TXN_SCOPE FULL_SYNC
DRTIMEOUT 30
Sql hosts at both servers: placed in %INFORMIXDIR%\\\\etc
hdr_secondary onsoctcp winhdr2 hdrsecport
hdr_primary onsoctcp winhdr hdrpriport
host file at both servers : placed in C:\\\\Windows\\\\System32\\\\drivers\\\\etc
199.166.155.195 winhdr
199.166.155.196 winhdr2
winhdr 199.166.155.195
winhdr2 199.166.155.196
host.equvi file @ both servers : placed in C:\\\\Windows\\\\System32\\\\drivers\\\\etc
winhdr informix
winhdr2 informix
services file @ both servers : placed in C:\\\\Windows\\\\System32\\\\drivers\\\\etc
hdrpriport 50005/tcp #hdr_primary
hdrsecport 50005/tcp #hdr_secondary
4)After all configuration setting has done we have take ontape backup at
Server A.
Server A status: On-Line
ontape -s -L 0
5)Moved the L0 backup to server B and restored with ontape. cold restore.
ontape -pServer B status : Fast Recovery
6) On Server A we had run the below command:
onmode -d primary hdr_secondary
Server A status : On-Line(Prim)
7) On Server B we had run the below command:
onmode -d secondary hdr_primary
Server B status : Fast Recovery(sec).
Till here we have done.
From here we are facing an issue.
the output at server B of onstat -g dri :
Data Replication at 0000000080CEC030:
Type State Paired server Last DR CKPT (id/pg) Supports Proxy Writes
HDR Secondary off hdr_primary -1 / -1 N
DRINTERVAL 0
DRTIMEOUT 30
DRAUTO 0
DRLOSTFOUND C:\\\\PROGRA~1\\\\IBMINF~1\\\\etc\\\\dr.lostfound
DRIDXAUTO 1
ENCRYPT_HDR 0Backlog 0
Nothing Sent
Nothing Received
No Pings
Last log page applied(log id,page): 0,0
Issue: Primary and Secondary are not Paired.
Error in Online log is:
Server A
DR: Trying to connect to secondary server = hdr_secondary
DR: Cannot connect to secondary server
DR: Turned off on primary server
Server B
DR: Trying to connect to primary server = hdr_primary
DR: Cannot connect to primary server
DR: Turned off on secondary server
Please help me on this. Im at lot of pressure.
Any one please respond immediately. Waiting for solution
Hi,
I suspect your setup does not correctly allow the connection between the
machines.
The wrong setting probably is:
port number : 199.166.155.195
The port number needs to be a known service from the system wide services file
(in windows somewhere in system32/drivers/etc)
or a numeric portnumber (such as 1531, 1600 etc.).
You entered an IP Adress here. The IP address for the listener is taken from
the hostname
argument. The hostname needs to be resolvable in the hosts file or via DNS.
Check your entries in sqlhosts on both sides.
These should be like:
(in windows edited with setnet32)
Informix Server = hdr_primary
Host Name = winhdr
(winhdr needs to be in the hosts file with the IP address 199.166.155.195 )
Protocol name = (something with sockets, in Linux it is onsoctcp)
Service name = 1601 (e.g. assuming this port is unused in your environment,
can be any port number)
Informix Server = hdr_secondary
Host Name = winhdr2
(winhdr2 needs to be in the hosts file with the IP address 199.166.155.196 )
Protocol name = (something with sockets, in Linux it is onsoctcp)
Service name = 1601 (e.g. assuming this port is unused in your environment,
can be any port number)
The same entries need to be added for the other server. (the entries have to
be present
at both sides, so that each server knows the local settings and the remote
settings).
That should work (I dont have any Win Installation here, but the steps are
In the server configuration onconfig, the instance needs to have the
winhdr/winhdr2 value
as DBSERVERNAME or alias.
After startup of the DB, the netstat -an command should show a running
listener on the port (e.g. 1601).
Hope this helps.

Marcus has replied and told you what is wrong You need a port number or a service name, not an ip address for the port =E2=80=94 Clive > On 21 Jun 2017, at 16:37, MUKESH TANUKU <mukeshbt1328@gmail.com> = wrote: >=20 > Please respond to this >=20 >=20 > = **************************************************************************= ***** > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. >=20
MUKESH: You should test the connectivity between the two Informix instances before trying to initialize HDR. Just use DBACCESS on one server and see if you can connect to the other server and query data, then do the same on the other system. If you can query data on each instance from the other then you know that you probably have the servers' configuration setup correctly to start up HDR. Cheers! Regards, Martin M. Graney Queues Enforth Development, Inc.
I am extremely sorry. I posted the IP address instead of port number. actually I used the port number of 50005 for both the servers in services file. My question is: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/44679932/informix-hdr-implementation-on-wind ows-2012-r2-server

Actually apart from the steps i followed, what need to be configure to get the trusted connection between servers.
http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?1628156-Informix-HDR-and-ER Somewhat old, but in general should work: Configure sqlhosts on both servers AND ensure both servers trust each other. On Unix this can be achieved with /etc/ hosts.equiv - one windows %ROOT%\\\\sytem32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\ hosts.equiv . The rule is you need to be able to access the instance on the other machine without entering a username and password. Andreas has already answered this part. http://members.iiug.org/forums/ids/index.cgi/noframes/read/39383 Marcus Haarmann Von: "MUKESH TANUKU" <mukeshbt1328@gmail.com> An: "ids" <ids@iiug.org> Gesendet: Donnerstag, 22.
