Shaun Sorry to be beating a dead horse <g>, but: 1) Try this URL: jdbc:informix-sqli;//gnote:1533/ /usr/shaun/java/javatest:informixserver=local_se;\\ user=shaun;usev5server=1. Note the space between 1533/ and /usr/shaun/... 2) you may want to put your password in the URL if you havent done so already, eg: user=shaun;password=secret;... 3) Make sure the /etc/services says something like: sqlexec 1533/tcp 4) Not sure about the usev5server, but if your manual says its needed, it is. Seem to remember seeing it somewhere...
