Re: restoring to new instance with onbar
Posted in 2000
'TECHNICALLY', you are restoring to the same instance (DBSERVERNAME), but
that can always be changed after you have completed the restore. The trick
is telling the storage manager to use the original client node name to
restore to this node (most of them -- ISM excluded -- seem to have a way to
do this without changing the machine name), copying the ixbar.0 file from
the original server, and properly manipulating the sqlhosts and onconfig
files (and the oncfg file, also). When you do the restore (if there already
was a database on the receiving machine), make sure you explicitly specify
physical and then logical restore (OnBar -r -p followed by onbar -r -l) or
onbar will try to copy the existing logs to the storage manager, with the
ORIGINAL client name.
