Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Jean-Philippe BATTU asked what SERIAL8 is and whether INFORMIX-SE has it. Maria C. Lopez quoted the Guide to SQL: it holds a sequential 8-byte integer, one per table, not automatically unique, no NULLs. She then said the Guide's applicability list included SE 7.1. Another poster described it as an 8-byte serial and was unsure about SE.

Hello,
This is what I found about your first question!
SERIAL8( n)
The SERIAL8 data type stores a sequential integer assigned automatically
by
the database server when a row is inserted. (For more information on how
to
insert values into SERIAL8 columns, see Chapter 1 of the Informix Guide
to
SQL: Syntax.) A SERIAL8 data column is commonly used to store large,
unique numeric codes (for example, order, invoice, or customer numbers).
SERIAL8 data values require 8 bytes of storage. The following
restrictions
apply to SERIAL8 columns:
- You can define only one SERIAL8 column in a table.
However, a table can have one SERIAL8 and one SERIAL column.
- The SERIAL8 data type is not automatically a unique column.
You must apply a unique index to this column to prevent duplicate
SERIAL8 numbers.
- The SERIAL8 data type does not allow a null value.
If you are using the interactive schema editor in DB-Access to define
the table,
a unique index is applied automatically to a SERIAL8 column.

Hello,
From the Informix Guide to SQL and regarding the information that I sent
you before about your first question, since it was related to SQL, had
this listed as part of the products to which it applied,
INFORMIX-SE, Version 7.1

It is an 8-byte serial integer. Like 'serial' (which
is 4-bytes), only longer. Useful for 64-bit systems.
> and is it available in INFORMIX SE product ?
I dunno. If SE specifically supports 64-bit
platforms, it may have been introduced there...
or not.
