HP K200 and Rapid 4GL. Help!

We are experiencing a certain behaviour on an HP K200 running UX 10.1 with our Informix 7.12 engine and Rapid 4GL V.6.02. We have a benchmark that times the execution of certain SQL commands when run purely in DBACCESS, and then in a 4GL program. On version 5 tools, the 4GL program performs much faster than the raw SQL statement (there are PREPARE's etc.) by as much as four-fold. This pattern is repeated on Version 7 tools on a SCO Unix machine as well but this is not the case on our beloved K200. The Rapid 4GL actually performs slower than the SQL's executed from the command line in DBACCESS. We would like to make comparisons with other K200/Rapid 4GL users as we have a situation where Informix and HP cannot agree on where the problem is. It is highly likely that our machine is not installed with all of the patches required, but we need to see if this behaviour is common on these machines.
