They will be afraid of Informix as this is an indication for the future as they become dependent on them. If Informix adopted the model of pushing out volume at a low price they would have a much better chance. This model is used very successfully by many others in the computer industry and if you look at american bussiness history so many other success stories have also used this model. It's actually the american way. If they would sell it at a reasonable low price on the important Unix platforms and on NT they could grab a very significant market share. Everybody need the Universal Server and it's functionality, not only those who do fancy datatypes. :- Confusing purchasing path once again - you have to hunt down somebody : qualified at Informix who can actually sell it. Lots of beaurocracy. : Old world marketing model, salesman required. I can understand this right now. They seem to have "released" the product, but it isn't in general distribution yet. When it is they sure have to change. :- Last I heard there were only 10 eval sites. Of course I could be : wrong but this is what the rep told me. :I don't know why they bothered marketing it if the majority of people :who would really like to use it can't get their hands on it. If history :serves me, wasn't the same pent-up-demand-and-price-it-through-the-roof :approach tried with New Era? I wonder if Microsoft is going to adopt :this marketing approach to increase their market share...it really :makes a lot of sense... :I did hear the NT version is coming in June or July... They should post the manuals on their web site or at least make them available for sale so we could start studying.
