While reading the released notes of IDS 7.21 below, Can anybody let me know the meaning of "HDR PAIR FOR SOCKETS" . see below. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/informix/pubs/library/notes/relnotes/721ud1. html 55525 WHILE BRINGING UP HDR PAIR FOR SOCKETS IT GIVES ERROR 'SYSTEM ERROR: RECVD ERRONEOUS EVENT ON SELECT'
I would guess this is in referrence to onsoctcp or olsoctcp... That is a reference to an issue that happened when the HDR pair (primary server and secondary server) were connected using sockets and the configuration used multiple poll threads. The bug reports dates from 1996... Regards. Just that you would be connecting an HDR primary and secondary on a system using a sockets TCP connection (onsoctcp in the sqlhosts file) as opposed to a TLI (ontlitcp) or other kind of remote connection. IDS 7.21 is VERY old and long out-of support. Even 7.31 goes out-of-support in two days. You should upgrade. Art Art S. It was still open when 7.21.UD1 was released; I have little doubt that it was fixed sometime during in the last decade, or possibly even longer ago. An HDR pair is two instances of IDS, normally running on two similar machines, where one is the primary and the other the secondary. All logged activity that modifies the primary is replicated to the secondary. There are methods for performing a failover from the primary to the secondary if the primary fails. IDS 11.50 has more sophisticated methods of handling this, using RSS and SDS nodes as well as HDR pairs. Read the replication manual for more details. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2008.0513 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused."
