IDS - How to find users in a database
Posted in 2009
A poster asked how to list all users of an Informix database. Replies first covered currently connected users: onstat -g ses, onstat -u, onstat -g sql <session>, plus sysmaster tables such as syssessions, sysuserthreads, sysnetworkio and syssesprof. The poster clarified he wanted users permitted to connect, whether or not they are logged in. Art Kagel noted you can list users holding explicit database privileges, but not everyone who could connect via implicit PUBLIC grants. No concrete query or final answer is recorded; the thread ends with a joke post.

All of the users currently connected, all of the users who are explicitely privileged in the database, or all users who can possibly connect to the database even with implicit privileges (ie through the pseudo-user PUBLIC)? Reyna,
Hi,
You can find out the current users using the onstat comand.
$ onstat -g ses 'Show you the users are currently connected
or
$ onstat -u
In both of them, the session column number, can be used to see what the user
are doing.
$ onstat -g sql session_number
Regards.

Hi,
onstat -g ses is a good starting point. onstat -u and onstat -g sql mayalso be useful. In addition, there are several tables (syssessions,
sysuserthreads, sysnetworkio, syssesprof...) in the sysmaster database
that contain that info an more. What are you looking for?
Cheers,

Joao, I'm not referring to the user that are connected to a session.
But what I am after is the users that are allowed to connect to
a database even if the user(s) is/are not connected.
Obrigado, parabens for the Olympics.

This is all just too complicated for me. My way of determining how many users are in my system is by killing the power on my IDS database server, then I watch the help desk line to see who calls in saying that they can't connect to the database. They really hate it when I do this 2 or 3 times a day. (You know I'm purely kidding here, but wishful thinking does put a smile on my face) [Yes! Obnoxio has had a profound influence on me] :o) Happy Friday! Jonathan B.
