Re: 4GL Error -4518 / Temporary String Storage
Posted in 1997
We are also having problems w/ 4518 error, but in REPORTs. We go ahold of an "undocumented" (ughhhh) routine from Informix that evidently clears out TSS, or maybe just clears out what has been used. We also got the Techinfor Bulletin #3925, that discusses the use of temporary string storage (TSS), and some of the coding techniques to use to avoid the 4518 error. Unfortunately, the "undocumented" routine (acdealloc, by name) DOES seem to work, when called at the right point, it is unsatisfactory for two reasons: (1) it is really just a "patch", like using aspirin for a broken arm; (2) it appears that the routine is not available in versions of 4gl above 4.1x (not sure about this). Questions: Are there any TSS gurus out there that I mail be able to pick your brains? Is there any way to access (as in DISPLAY) the contents of TSS? How do REPORTs (specifically the AFTER GROUP clause) use TSS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! BTW, we are on SE (I know, I know, I would like to move to OnLine/DSA, but...). Some of our customers, though, that are getting the 4518 in our applications are on OnLine, DSA, etc. Thanks in advance!!!!!
