I'm not aware of too many retail stores running Oracle in the actual stores - Informix always did well in that market (Progress of course did way better). There are some retail success stories here - http://www.oracle.com/customers/industries/retail_dist.html - but these of course cover both apps and the technology. There are plenty of branch type operations running Oracle however, so we should be able to get reasonably close. In another post I asked some questions about what type of environment we had to hit for comparison - workload, application profile, size of database, age of software, provisioning and upgrade process etc etc. If you want to provide some generic guidelines I will try and find a customer(s) that matches. But even supposing that I can't, how does this one example prove that Informix is easier to manage than Oracle ? Management of a cookie cutter embedded environment is a different challenge than managing a high throughput mission critical environment is a different challenge than managing a data warehouse is a different challenge than managing a distributed environment. Oracle, on the other hand, does have plenty of customers that are more than happy to talk, be quoted, and even video taped about their experience with manageability- http://www.oracle.com/customers/products/ent_manager.html So maybe one metric would be "Customers that are willing to be quoted publically ?"
