exclusive excess on tables problem

Hi all,
This group has always helped me whenever I was in problem, I am sure
this time also I will get a solution.
Last night we had a release in which we tried to alter some tables.
But we got database error 242 and isam error 106, which means table was
used by some one else and we didn't have the exclusive access. We are
sure nobody was on the system at that time. In the morning when I
checked the output of onstat -u I found some sessions using database
though the user was not logged on.
My question is: Is it possible to kill any such type of sessions
before running the database alter commands? If yes how? Actually the
users here exit from the system without logging out properly this causes
the problems. Is there a way we can stop this from happening. Any help
will be greatly appriciated. We are using Informix 7.3x and HP-UX 10.20.
Thanks in advance. If possible please send a copy of your reply to my
email id at asharma@uswest.com
Thanks
Arvind

You may have to wait for rollbacks. Check the session status with:
onstat -g ses <sessid>

Try implementing the keep-alive feature in the sqlhosts file on the
clients (or the server for local connections, though it is usually remote
connections from PCs that cause this).

You're welcome.
