Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Konstantin Bakunov could not start Informix OnLine 5.0 on SCO after tbinit failed with 'Transaction not found' and 'Cannot Rollforward from Checkpoint'. Mister Creosote diagnosed a long transaction and advised restoring without rolling forward logical logs. Art S. Kagel gave two options: restore from archive answering no to log restore, then bring the engine fully online, or have Informix tech support truncate the last log. No outcome reported.

Hi...
I have the Informix Online Server 5.0 that works under SCO 3.2.4.2
While shared memory starts initialize with command tbinit the
following error occurs:
------------
Informix Online initialized - Shared memory Initiialized
Physical Recovery Complete: 16 Pages Restored
Transaction not found.
Log Record: log=4298, pos=87184, type=51, trans=34
Cannot Rollforward from Checkpoint
Informix-Online Stopped.
------------
I don't know how i can do any rollforward when i have not initialized
the shared memory...
Have anybody the solution of this problem ?
Thanks in advance.

You would appear to have encountered a Long Transaction. You will need
to do a restore and tell the engine NOT to roll forward any logical
logs otherwise you will roll forward the long transaction itself and be
back where you are now.
Regards
Mr Creosote

logs.." ;)

And what is "restore" ? Does it restore from logical log ?

What seems to have happened is that either the logical logs
filled up or the machine crashed without flushing its log
buffers. When the engine tries to start it sweeps the logs and finds a
partial transaction record (and update will
consist, for example, of a pre and post log record and one
of these did not get flushed). There are only two solutions
1) Restore the server from archive and when prompted for
logical logs to restore say no. The database will be
restored as of the beginning of the archive and you will
have to repeat all transactions since manually. (If you do
this make sure to bring the engine fully online after the
restore before shutting it down or you will have to restore
all over again.)
2) Call Informix tech support and they will truncate the
current or last complete logical log on disk so that the
startup fast recovery can complete successfully. This will
only possibly cause the loss of a few transactions.
