Hello All, I am so grateful to have found this site. I am employed by a very well known and reputeable report writing company. I am part of the Database team for this outfit. In our specific team, we test all forms of connectivity with our product against all of the major databases. With this testing comes the need for basic level dba documentation. I have recently been assigned the task or figuring out IDS 7.3 and 2000. My job it to create a simple doc on the basics of admin. I am centred around using GUI for everything as I don't see the server being used for more than a simple testing capacity. Some of the products that will be used are, setnet32, sql editor, iecc console (bar..). The doc is to outline the following: Default setup for IDs 7.3 on NT4 standalone server Creation of user accounts Exporting databases or tables to a .xxx file (I suppose) that can be sent or recieved for the purpose of testing on different sites. eg customer calls us for help on connection to their database, we may think it is an issue with the database, so we want to try it out ourselves and request that the customer send us ( I guess export) the particular database or table required for testing. If exporting is not a method, I would like to find a way to get creation sql for the database/table and population sql for this. I presume this is a simple command that can be done through the sql editor. eg.. a command that would say.. "get me the sql that was used to create xyz table" "get me the sql that was used to populate xyz table". Backup and restoring database/servers, thru bar from iecc.. Before you refer me to the informix /docs site, I will like to state that I have combed most of the docs inside out. They all assume that I won't get any errors. In most cases, I am getting all sorts of funky errors and cannot even carry any further. I have installed the server and initialized it and began the service, I can connect through sql editor but iecc tells me that I can't find the server. So before I turn this into a movie of the week I would just like to know if there are folks out there who may have created simple how to docs for end users or juniour dba's to work with. Any help or Rogaine would be much appreciatted.
