I presume you are using Standard Engine.
I refer to bcheck here, oncheck is (probably) preferable.
A/ Check the manual (my manual is not too helpful).
B/ Run your command from a directory OTHER than your database directory with
the -n parameter only
eg> cd ~
eg> bcheck -n # -n simply checks - but takes no action
# this command gives you a list of
your runtime parameters
To actually repair tables:
Check your file name
( SELECT * FROM systables WHERE tabname = "broken_table"; )
Make sure no other users are using the table
Move to the database directory
eg> cd $DBPATH # assuming you have only one directory in
DBPATH
eg> cd database.dbs
eg> bcheck filename # filename has NO extension
# bcheck will then check both the
data (.dat) and
# index (.idx) files, prompting you
for any repairs
