Python connect to Informix
Posted in 2016
Frank asked for outline steps to connect Python to Informix 12.10 on Linux. Replies pointed to several options: IBM's python-ibmdb driver (https://github.com/ibmdb/python-ibmdb), which connects ODBC-style over DRDA — the IBM Data Server Driver package ships with the Informix Client SDK, so you configure a DRDA listener on the server and use one of the supplied drivers; the older informixdb DBAPI module from SourceForge (plus SQLAlchemy's Informix dialect); or using Python's REST framework against the Informix REST listener. Links to the Python wiki and a StackOverflow page were given, but no step-by-step setup or confirmation from Frank appears in the thread.

HI, IDS12.10 , Linux Any outline steps to set up connection between Python and Informix ? Thanks Frank --001a1141d9b6177d4d053670e796
Use the Python driver from IBM ? Connection is very ODBC'ish > HI, > > IDS12.10 , Linux > > Any outline steps to set up connection between Python and Informix ? > > Thanks > Frank > > --001a1141d9b6177d4d053670e796 > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > -- Paul Watson Tel: +1 913-674-0360 Mob: +1 913-387-7529 Web: www.oninit.com Oninit® is a registered trademark of Oninit LLC Failure is not as frightening as regret. Frank: You can use the Python REST framework and connect it to the Informix REST listener (easy to start up). Or, here are a couple of links that discuss how to connect Python to Informix natively: https://wiki.python.org/moin/Informix http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19460560/connect-to-informix-with-pythons-ibm -db Art Art S. HI, Art and Paul, They were talking about using DRDA connection between Python and Informix . I did not find the detail info about its setup .... The IBM Data Server Driver package, which is included in IBM Informix Client SDK constains various drivers for the DRDA protocol. DRDA is a formal standard protocol for clients and database server to communicate. It's supported by DB2 and Informix (among others) So, if you configure a DRDA listener for Informix you can use one of the provided drivers. Regards. The informixdb <https://sourceforge.net/projects/informixdb/> DBAPI module. DBAPI is the standard for Python database connectivity. The dialect for Informix in SQLAlchemy also works fairly well - which uses the underlying DBAPI module. -- Meetings Coordinator, Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers 537 Shirley St NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503-1754 Phone: 616.581.8010 E-mail: awilliam@whitemice.org GPG#D95ED383 Web: http://www.marp.org
