Unidata / Informix comparison HELP

I work for Circle 33 Housing Trust. We have, to date, developed all major databases in house in Informix (4GL SE). We are currently assessing an off the shelf package written in Unidata. I had not come accross Unidata before. It looks like a good database system and the application meets our requirements but I would like to know more about Unidata. Has anyone come across it? How does it compare with Informix in terms of ease of development / maintenance, system performance. How big is Unidata and how long have they been going - to put that another way might they go down the pan? Are there any contractors out there with Unidata skills? Are there any third part tools (eg report writers, GUI front ends) which work with Unidata? Any comments, suggestions, warnings, recommendations gratefully recieved.
