Hi all, I am new to informix. I would like to know how to calculate the rootdbs 1) Is it (Logfiles x log size) + (PHYsical log) + some schemas ? 2) Can i have a small value of Log file log size and physical log during initialization and increase after the initialization by just restarting the server.( i will increase the rootdbs by adding a large chunk from other disk) 3) i have a part of roodbs on one LV (logicalvolume) and other on ther LV and VG also. 4)If i add a new chunk to rootdbs ,do i need to make any change to onconfig file Thanks.

Unless you want to place your logical and physical logs in one or more
separate dbspaces - which is recommended BTW - that's about right. If you
will be moving the logs after initialization to different dbspaces you only
have to allocate space for the initial 6 logical logs and the default
physical log.

Yes, you need a minimum of 3 logical logs in order to initialize the server
and the default/sample ONCONFIG file creates six for you if you don't modify
it. Once the server is initialized you can create new logical logs in the
same or a different dbspace then drop the original ones that were in rootdb
space. This can be done with the server online you just have to use onmode
-l to switch the current log to one of the new ones and archive the existing
logs before being able to drop them.
Moving the physical log is actually easier. Just modify the location and/or
size in the ONCONFIG file and bounce the server. The server knows where the
orginal physical log is and will use it for startup recovery if needed and
then drop it and create the new physical log.

No, only the first rootdb chunk needs to be documented in the ONCONFIG file.
