Onbar Backups on 9.4

Hi,
I have seen strange backup entries in the bar_act.log file on IDS 9.4.UC1 with
Veritas 4.5..
Yesterday, I had added new dbspaces to the system...
Usually when level-1 onbar backup is inititiated, the system automatically
starts Level-0 backup when it sees new dbspaces/or data structure has been
changed.
But, when level-1 was initiated yesterday after new dbspaces were added, the
Level-1 did take place for all the other dbspaces except for the 10 new
dbspaces I had added. For those 10 dbspaces, it did level-0 backup...
Now that I find strange that the system did not initiate level-1 backups but
level-0 for newly added dbspaces and for others level-1.
Please let me know if this is something new with 9.4 version becuase in
earlier versions had never seen this or some Bug...
Thanks

Nah,
it's not anything new with 9.4, I just saw it last week, and we are
running XPS 8.32. I added some new dbslices, and it gave me the same
message:
2003-08-02 06:02:11 29662 29658 A change in physical configuration has
ccurred. A level 0 backup of dbslice_066.1 is being performed.
It will also take a level 0 backup of your rootdbspace. Look at it this
way - a level 1 is meaningless unless you have a "baseline" level 0 to
begin with. In our situation, it did take a level 1 backup of existing
dbslices.

Hi,
with 9.40.UC1, a couple of improvements regarding this behaviour
have been implemented to automate this.
In earlier versions of IDS (not necessarily XPS) this was not as
nicely and completely automated, that's the reason why you now
see these unfamiliar messages in the ON-Bar activity log file.
[ Pre-9.40 versions of IDS always printed out the information that
a level 0 archive was necessary after adding a dbspace (see the
output of "onspaces -c ..." command.
However, ON-Bar was relying on the administrator to do these
required level 0 archives consciously.
Now with 9.40 some mechanism was introduced to do it
automatically. I.e. ON-Bar now falls back from requested level 1
or level 2 archive to do a level 0 archive for those dbspaces where
this is required. Other dbspaces will be archived as requested.
So your observation is correct and you can be assured that the
produced archives can be restored correctly. ]
Regards,
Martin
