Documentary & Multimedia DBs...

13:28:11 10/12/1991 I'm looking for men being interested in matters related with the following: I'm involved in the development of a TCP/IP network. It will support a lot of chronicle-writers, supervised and managed by other guys, in a hierarchical manner. Notes, articles and photos will be recorded into a HDisk while an edition of the newspaper is not finished. When this occurs, the *archivist* classifies all this work and records it in a permanent multimedia library (into a WORM disc). The whole system is foreseen to be distributed across various cities, via IP, altough the documentary database itself will be supported by one database server. In short, we'll have three kinds of problems: a)To support the NetWork, at TCP/IP, I-NET and application level. b)To provide facilities to writers, section-chiefs and so on, in such a way that they can write, revise-and- pass to next level, resubmit, etc. all the writings. Also, it will be need a bunch of reports for post-mortem auditing, etc. c)To provide a well structured library service, with multikeyword search, facilities for import/exporting data objects, etc., leaving the way open to include by- content searches, hypertext layers, etc. (The second point may be relevant to John Baker, I think.) The tools will be On-Line (DB Server), STAR. On DOS PCs, TCP/PC, I-NET and DOS-ESQL/C. The subnets will be connected via satellite. Experiences, warnings and doubts will be welcomed.
