deleting large databses
Posted in 1992
Hello, I am working in 4GL 4.00 under UNIX, and I need some help to solve this situation: I have a table that holds 12000 rows, this table has 4 indexes, some of them on one column and some combined. I have an initialization process that deletes all of the rows. This process takes from 1 to 2 hours. I experimented droping the indexes before deleting and creating them again after the table was empty, and the process took less time. Another solution was to drop and re-create the table, which would be the fastest way, and worked fine. But now I have to work on the security aspect, and all the databases were re-created by a database administrator, giving INSERT, DELETE,... privileges but I cant DROP TABLES, DROP INDEXES, CREATE TABLES, CREATE INDEXES, without having RESORCE privilege on the whole database, not only the table I am working with. Does somebody knows of a workaround for this situation ??? Thanks in advance. Yaron
