Informix software uses the environment variable to locate where other components of the software are. If you need to access something which is not in $INFORMIXDIR, then either you have to set an environment variable which does accept a path-name instead of a file name (eg INFORMIXSQLHOSTS in 6.00 and above, or SQLEXEC in pre-6.00 software; contrast TBCONFIG or ONCONFIG in all known versions, which always refers to a file in, or relative to, $INFORMIXDIR/etc), or you have to refer to the file by its full pathname. The only thing that RDS would be accessing under the lib directory is the libraries needed to build the custom runner. You wouldn't need to access the engine while you're building a custom runner, so the simplest thing to do is to set INFORMIXDIR to /usr/informix while doing the build. Failing that, install the software in /informix/ONLINE, possibly by making symbolic links from /usr/informix to /informix/ONLINE for all files unique to RDS.
