The problem is that the two platforms don't seem to accept the same protocols... Can I install a new protocol (onsoctcp on Solaris for instance) ? How ? Thanks Joran Maille jmaille@servantes.com

Can I install a new protocol (onsoctcp on Solaris for instance) Note that onsoctcp and ontlitcp are FULLY compatible. They simply specify which library calls are used to get access to the TCP/IP level. The actual communications protocol above that is the same. Depending on which library is more native, and therefore faster, Informix uses either System V Streams (TLI) or Berkley Sockets (SOC) on various UNIX systems. On Windows platforms only the Windows API and various Sockets libraries are available. While I do not know whether Informix coded directly to the Windows API or to BSD Sockets they call that interface onsoctcp on Windows anyway. Solaris, being System V R4 based supports TLI natively (Sockets is a library layer over that) and that is what Informix supports there. Art S. Kagel
