Sorry, I probably missed your point and clearly failed to convey mine: The C filter has the advantage of being able to cater reasonably easily for different printers on the same site and is not too difficult to port. Clearly it would *not* port as easily as (say) a 4GL library function. How about: FUNCTION print_func(printer_type, print_style) -- serious CASE statement follows ...
