Wait reasons

Hi all ! I've been having a poke around the ol' SMI tables lately, and, I've found that in SYSSESWTS there are some quite high (like, in the 10's of 1000s) values for a few wait reasons. The reasons with these high values are (in order of number of waits) are: mt ready condition running aio I'd really appreciate if anyone could shine some light on what exactly these waits mean so I can go about reducing them. I'm running Online version 7.24.UC6 a Sun 450 with 3 x 248MHz CPUs and 1GB RAM. The database is about 2GB in size. There are about 15 users. The database does way more reading than writing. Any ideas much appreciated Thanks! Andrew
Hi Andrew,
well, i've been testing a lot with wait statistics. Here's what I've
found out:
Some of the wait stats seem to be ok; however at some point in time,
some values change to 4295.0s.
An example of onstat -g wst:
kaio 14 yield forever 3508401 186351 4295.0s
kaio 14 ready 3508403 2464 4295.0s
kaio 14 run 3508368 16683 4295.0s
This semms to be the representation of MAXINT 2^32 = 4294967296. In the
systwaits-table (base-table for sysseswts-view) you'll find values far
above the "MAGIC"-number. It seems there is some bug using
signed/unsinged INTs and/or converting them to the float-values used
in systwaits. What I usually do is: subtract MAXINT from cumtime-column
until cumtime is below MAXINT. I know, this might not be correct,
however in my opinion is is still better then "nothing".
Since WSTATS is (still) undocumented (afaik), I don't *dare* bother
Informix-hotline with this problem ;-)
Hope this helps,
Peter
