The problem is >that my SCO Xenix versions do not run under Linux operating system >that I want to use and the SCO Unix versions do work under Linux. Here's a marketing opportunity, Informix. I also would like to buy Informix for Linux at a price that I, as a private individual, can afford. Some time ago Informix wrote to me at work announcing that certain products (I think it was 4.x engines and x.10 tools were being "retired" (whatever that means). How about getting together with one of the Linux CD-ROM vendors and putting together a package with a retired SE engine. It could, perhaps, be slightly crippled so that it would only support 8 engines (4 x developers running [ir]4gl and an application under test or 4 users with menus and an application) whilst it would only be allowed to add rows above a certain limit if only two engines were running (single user with menu and application. The ability to run 4 users with small databases would make it a good product for training whilst allowing a single user to use a large database would support the private user who wanted to catalogue his stamp collection or whatever. The cheap training platform could be a real long term advantage. People go out to buy what they trained on, that's what made Unix and, I suspect, the Internet, so popular. There is also a precedent in that Informix have sold off retired products in the past (Smartware and Hyperscript Tools). Sorry, Kirill, if this doesn't help you directly - but if They take up the idea it might help in the long run. Ian PS I can get a free 90-day time-bombed version of Oracle Objects on a CD-ROM from the front of a magazine! When the 90 days runs out I'll know Oracle Objects for free but I won't know New Era without spending serious money. If someone came along and asked me what platform I could develop an o-o database application on what would I answer ....?
