Re: oninit command on NT

Hi,
You can start an Informix engine on NT the following ways:
starting the service
using the "starts" command
via the Informix Enterprise Command Center
If you run the oninit command it *does* start, but it runs in
the foreground and will not return your command line. It is
supposed to do that, they tell me, for diagnostic purposes.
This is one of the best-kept secrets in Informix, not in the
Admin Guide or release notes (yet.)
Education Services has written a new class called "Informix
Dynamic Server Administration on NT" that does teach this and
many other tricks of the trade. The new class, available in
January 1999, was developed specifically for the NT DBA, and is
not merely a re-write of the Unix material. I give it strong
recommendation.
