I've not come across that one myself but, there is a bug in the HP version of 5.0, that is fixed in 5.01. A process calling a SP will take and hold a lock on the stored procedure making it inaccessable to any other process and causing the second process to fail on executing the SP, but this didn't bring the engine down. You may be seeing an extreme version of this problem due to using the SP recursively. Cheers - Jim My opinions are my own.
