Which middleware to use

We are currently have PB/Sybase 11.0.13, VB/Informix 7.23, PB/Informix 7.23 with VB/SQL coming soon. We are thinking about buying a middleware to connect all DBs. The middleware will be mainly used by VB applications which mainly extract data from DB and run reports. Any recommendation and comparision on middleware vendors? Is there any middleware doesn't need Informix ODBC setup on end user's machine? We found configation in setnet32 may get lost when computer crashes. Thanks.
