I could of course do this if it where a 4GL program running on Unix using
some C-functions to set up the pipe.
The problem is we want to write MS Windows programs that are very user
friendly (far beyond what is possible with any character based program) to
select data, tell the user something about the data selected and then letthe user have an option to insert the customer number and some other data
into a table.
We also want to use standard programs available on the market that does
this kind of thing.
The only reasonable way of doing it I know is via a statement like:
insert into tablex...
select ...
from ...
where ...
My wish is that tablex can be on a non logging database while tables in the
from clause of the select statement is typically on a logging database, but
may also be on the same non logging database as tablex.
Remember the problem is that the select may return 100 thousands or millions of
records.
Perhaps somebody knows if some kind of middelware product is able to do
this? At a reasonable speed and low cost...
