I-Net has several other requirements as to the correct setup of both your server and each PC. If you change the ip numbers on a working PC it will allways still work and this is no indication as to what the problem is on the other PCs. Your server is probably set up correctly as two PCs work. Informix's responce is therefore technically correct. It's your PC's that are misconfigured. They should however be able to help you out. You must be using a TCP/IP with a new enough winsocket implementation. Both your hosts and services files on each PC must be correct. Somtimes you need an extra blank line at the end of your services file. Also try to run ilogin. It isn't installed as an icon, but you will find it in your informix\\bin directory. Select File/Run and give it the name of an existing database. If a new window is displayed without an error message you got connected to the database. (Don't forget to run setnet first of course.) (Dear, dear Informix - ilogin on Windows is a prime example of what I have said before about your ability to make good MS Windows applications. This is *not* the way to do it! *Not*!) Many other things may also be wrong. There has been several posts lately on these kinds of problems. It seems Informix need to do something about the situation. A better install program with several more checks and controls and very intelligent messages about exactly what is wrong and what must be done to correct it is called for. Informix should be able to do this at least for the 3 or 4 most used TCP/IP packages on the market. As TCP/IP itself is now free for windows they should even be able to include some of these with I-Net at no cost to Informix! Several other companies are doing that, and have better install programs than Informix has.
