PDQ memory / non-PDQ memory

This is likely obvious, so feel free to treat me like a know-nothing bimbo. If I dedicate X amount of memory to informix and set Y available to PDQ - is Y amount available to non-PDQ processes when not in use? Or is it always reserved and sitting around doing nothing when I am not using PDQ for anything? I also ask the same question from the other direction...if PDQ is humming and theres not a lot of other activity going on, can PDQ use X memory or is Y its absolute ceiling no matter what?

It's a kind of limit to what will be taken from the virtual segments when a big PDQ query comes along. In particular, the PDQPRIORITY is multiplied against this allocation to determine how much memory to give the PDQ query. A smallish query may not actually want to use it all, but more often than not...
