========================== PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT =============================== SQLX/FormX v1.0 - 1/6/93 ------------------------ Introduction ------------ SQLX and FORMX is designed for users who want the full functionality of ANSI and Informix SQL in an easy to use graphical environment. SQLX is a query tool, SQL statement constructor, and data analysis tool that supports ANSI and Informix extensions of the language. FORMX is a graphical data entry screen painter that incorporates the advantages of a standard X-Windows based interface to access Informix databases. SQL --- SQLX lets the user build syntax error free SQL commands all the time by pointing and selecting items within each SQL command dialog. 36 SQL statement types for Informix database creation, maintenance and querying are supported, as well as extensions to the language like LOAD and RUN etc. SQL statement construction and execution is controlled so that syntax correct- ness is ensured and run time errors are controlled by statement level error checking. Data Entry ---------- Using FORMX, users can customize data entry and query forms that may be run by themselves or invoked from SQLX. FORMX provides a graphical drag and drop envi- ronment that lets the user operate labels, data entry fields, navigation buttons as well as bitmaps, in compliance with the Motif user interface. FORMX directly modifies into, and query from Informix databases and provides for multitable joins as well as a data filter based on the select statement 'where' clause. Query ----- SQLX can output multiple query results. The selected rows of data are represent- ed in a row-by-column format and may be graphed into pie, bar, line and scatter graphs. Multiple output may be displayed from different databases at the same time. Any form that is created with FORMX can incorporate the Query button which allow the user to interactively retrieve rows of data from multiple tables in a query- by-example fashion. Multiple tables may be updated at once. Editor ------ The SQLX SQL script editor is a full-featured Motif compliant editor that supp- orts cutting, copying and pasting of text via the X-Windows clipboard. SQL statements can be entered directly into the editor or 'Built' using SQL state- ment dialogs. Compatibility ------------- SQLX and FORMX is 100% compatible with Informix SE and Online database engines (v4.1 and later). It will execute your current SQL scripts without modification and with more integrity.
