rootdbs eaten up

I have set up an On-Line instance on AIX with a small rootdbs, 40MB. Over a period of two months this space is eaten up so the system must be shut down. When the system comes up it logs numerous entries like: 22:24:47 Dropping temporary tblspace 1000003, recovering 8 pages. This adds exactly up to the missing space. These tblspaces, however do not show up when I do tbcheck -pe before the shutdown. When I started the system 17 days ago there were appr. 8800 free pages in the rootdbs, today, free pages are down to 6089. This means that the system must be shut down in 24 days! Does anyone know whether: a) there is a fix? b) there is a better workaround than shutting down? c) has this been solved in version 6? I'm running version 5.02.UC2.
