Looking For An Accurate Online Access Test

The boss currently uses a script with: "tbstat -l" to determine whether there the database is up (online) and allowing sql access (insert, update, delete, select). This is on a cron job. I would like to ask if there is a better way of determining whether the Online engine is allowing access to the database (online). We have Version 5.10.UC2 on the Informix Online engine. Cheers Brett
