Informix can't say this, but their customers can ... New releases come out first on Sun, HP, IBM AIX and Sequent. If you want the latest functionality first, try one of these. Pyramid does a good job for us on large databases, but the Informix releases lag behind the pack. >Also, I would like recommendations on backup schemes. If I will >be purchasing a database server, I wil want to purchase the backup >devices etc. We use 8mm, but are neither happy nor unhappy with the choice. They are very large capacity, but also slow. Informix archive runs best if you choose a media that can hold the entire database instance on a single tape/platter mount. Otherwise, your database updates can stop while the tape is being rewound and changed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Jim Burks jburks@promus.com ~ ~ Database Administrator / Systems Engineer ~ ~ The Promus Companies, Inc.
