Please try to explain again and I'll try to guess. If you want a trigger to update a column in the same table on update of a row you can do so as long as the column the trigger will effect is not the object of the trigger. So if you want to update say a timestamp column automatically when the row is updated then make the trigger FOR UPDATE OF and list all columns EXCEPT the timestamp. Art S. Kagel
