HI All , Current version of Informix 7.30.UC3 UNIX :- Solaris 5.6 Wondering if any body knows if the following has problems. We are setting up HDR on two servers. The primary is going to be where all the IT staff are and the secondary is 5hours down the road with know techies there. If ever the primary server goes down(due fire, earthquake etc ) and we change the secondary server into standard mode so that all the users can continue processing. The back-ups & logs will then be done at the second site which has a tape drive. Question:- 1. Are there any issues with bringing the Secondary server on-line as a Primary and then take a copy of this to make the primary server now the secondary server ? I have tried this out and it worked. But the Informix manuals only only show how to bring the secondary back up as a secondary and recover the primary. The reason I am asking if this is possible is that the network connection between the two servers is a 512K line. To recover a 6G DB & logs over the line would take to long. It would be quicker to send a archive & log tapes once taken via a courier. This allows us time then to recover the secondary server at a scheduled maintenance slot. Cheers & thanks in advance. That would be the way to go in your example scenario (fire, etc). That is, the Secondary becomes Primary -> Repair original Primary -> Bring it up as Secondary. If the original Primary must remain Primary after repair (say, because client connections are faster on it), some downtime will be required. One possible procedure to minimize such down time is to bring up the original primary as the secondary, allow it to get in sync. Once that's happened, wait for an appropriate window in which you bring both servers to quiescent, switch the original Primary to Standard mode, switch your clients back to the original Primary, and then restart HDR from scratch on the Secondary.
