Hari, That's what ER and HDR do. Here are the problems... 1) Checksums can't ensure that differing blocks are really identical. They can only suggest that they are the same. False collisions will cause you to not copy a block accross that is really different. 2) RSync doesn't really work on an active database because the active database is really defined by the database logs. The stuff on disk is not the consistant image of the system. It is only when the logs are applied against the system that you get consistancy. So you need to shut the system down to avoid concurrent changes from user data. That's why ER & HDR can successfully apply only the changes since they are processing the logs.
