What do we use for BATCH processing?

We are in the process of switching to Informix for our data warehouse. Our current application uses PowerHouse QTP for all of the batch nightly and background processing on the Unix server, an HP 9000 series 800 running HP-UX. QTP does not support Informix so we need to find a new tool. The type of processing we need to do is to join several tables together, sometimes multiple layers of outer joins, apply logic to each record found and store the results into another table or flat file. This processing is kicked off by the scheduler, we're using cron right now, at the desired times. There is no client-server activity and no user initiates the processing. So what do you use for this sort of processing? I know that Informix 4GL can do this. Are there other tools that can access a wider variety of DBMS or file types? We'll still have applications running under the old DBMS and in a perfect world it would be nice to use the new tool(s) for both. Certainly C/ESQL can do anything but it is hard to go back to a 3GL after many years with a fourth generation tool. Any help you can provide will be gratefully accepted. E-mail, telephone or follow-up posts are all welcome. Scott Johnson Integrated Circuits Business Division Hewlett-Packard Co. Corvallis, Oregon e-mail: saj@cv.hp.com phone: (503) 715-3212
