I've been doing some forwards compatability testing with I-CLI 2.5 (which is compiled for use with 7.2x ESQL/C), so I have a good ODBC working environment. I have my .odbc.ini file set up with data sources for 9.12.UC1, 7.23.UC1 and 5.08.UD1 OnLine/IUS engines, and I can use the same program to connect to any of the three data sources. The only trick with ensuring that the 5.08 OnLine can be accessed is making sure that the 5.08 I-Net connection is working, and your sqlhosts file is set up correctly. >You see, we have the need to develop an application to access an >Informix 5.0 database, and have been "requested" to use ODBC to >accomplish this, if possible. If your ODBC Driver is on a PC (rather than on Unix as I was testing), then you're into networking anyway, so the I-Net sqlexecd isn't a problem. You just have to work out how to configure ODBC and I-CLI on your PCs to talk to your OnLine server. Don't ask me!
