Thanks, I didn't think that you could but I just wanted to make sure. I
certainly would think this would be a good and useful feature. That and
platform independent backups and restores with ontape (if it makes it
slower just make it an option). (can that be done?) I read some c.d.i
on this and it looked like you needed to be careful about endianess of
the two machines and the float formats between the two machines. Is
this feature coming in a future release or is it deemed not important.

dbexport is your "platform independent" backup and restore mechanism
For a platform independent backup/restore use version 10 and table level restore to restore all tables from a level 0 archive. This is platform independent. Backup/restore will always be version dependent since each new version has more features. David.
No.
Table Level Restore (TLR) is based on a normal backup/archive.
Normal backups/archives are platform dependent, therefore
TLR also is platform dependent. It is a way to extract from a
backup/archive only the data that belongs to a specific table
and put it somewhere. But this does not make it platform
independent, because the data itself is platform dependent.
To be platform independent, one of dbexport/dbimport or
unload/load or HPL is the choice.
Sorry,
Martin
