952-Error on Dynamic Server 7.30.U

Hallo,
I have connect-problems with Dynamic Server 7.30.U on linux 2.0.36.
When I am on the local machine as user informix and start dbaccess,
query-language,
then select sysmaster-database, I am connected.
However, when I try to connect - in the same dbaccess - again, I type in
USER NAME > informix
PASSWORD > "the correct UNIX-Password"
,
I get a 952: User's password is not correct for the database server.
Also, connecting from an NT-Client with SQL-Editor 952 doesn't succeed
when in the /etc/hosts.equiv on the server the line
+
is deleted.
(When this line is in, I can connect - even with empty DB).
However, connecting via JDBC from the same NT-Machine yields 952
everytime.
Every hint will be appreciated.
Thank U very much for every response,
Matthias Rogel

Can you connect WITHOUT a username and password (ie with .rhosts set up on
the server)? If so you are likely using shadow passwording or PAM on the
Linux server and the version of IDS you have is not compatible. Someone
posted a workaround to enable use of shadow passwords about three weeks
ago, but you still cannot use PAM unless you upgrade to 9.21. Either back
down to shadow passwords and implement the workaround or back all the way
to /etc/passwd.

Or, you need to make sure that that PAM isn't using MD5 passwords in /etc/shadow. Does the Solaris port of Informix grokk PAM? -- Forte International, P.O.
