You don't need NFS to run Informix... Your statement introduces something illogical...even for NCs. However, in light of what your company has for products: I recently saw a Sun Netra server and a Sun Java NC. The NC wasn't the goofy looking star-trekkish thing, but what appeared to be an IPC replaced with NC components. ( The IPC is the little box that looks like a ream of paper ) I asked the sales rep: "You mean to tell me if I buy this Netra server and these Java NCs, that I can put together a small or large office system?" He replied, "Well, right now we're going after the vt100 replacement business, and soon we will have the office automation stuff. But for now the office system you imply is not quite there". I said "Hmmmmmm..." :-) The little Java NC had 8 MB of memory, and was running Corel Office for Java and some other interesting apps--very quick I might add. The rep told me the NCs were about $700 each and the Netra about $10,000--which is attractive compared to a typical NT system. So, again, in light of your products, it still appears that NFS is not necessary. Informix OnLine uses a raw disk preferrably, and for most users, a simple network connection to hit the data base. Especially for the size systems your company might be interested in. I could be totally off-base here, but maybe this answers your question? :-) Hope this helps... -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com (6 6) ------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o--------- http://www.inxutil.com
