I have recently discovered a limitation in the FORMs user interface. One
form cannot handle more than 13 TEXT fields. The form compiles fine,
but when I enter the editor to edit the TEXT on the 14th TEXT field,
no filename is passed to the editor (vi).
This is a bug that Informix knows about. From what I can tell, it
won't be fixed any time soon. Has anybody found a way around this
limitation? Reducing the number of TEXT fields is a good idea, but
not really possible for me at this time. Note that this is a problem
only in forms. The database itself can handle the text fine.
See for yourself with the following example:
CREATE TABLE t(
the_key CHARACTER (8),
i1 TEXT, i2 TEXT, i3 TEXT, i4 TEXT, i5 TEXT,
i6 TEXT, i7 TEXT, i8 TEXT, i9 TEXT, i10 TEXT,
i11 TEXT, i12 TEXT, i13 TEXT, i14 TEXT, i15 TEXT
)
Generate the default form for this table. Compile it, and attempt
to add a record with a value in each field. It works fine for i13,
then...
Thanks for any suggestions!
Eric
p.s. I use INFORMIX-SQL Version 4.11.UC1 on SunOS with INFORMIX OnLine.
