Greetings, I am in the beginning stages of moving my current IDS 7.22 databases from an HP-UX 10.2 server to another HP-UX machine. This new machine can run HP-UX 10.2 (32-bit) or HP-UX 11.0 (64-bit) so I am trying to decide between IDS ports. I have read most of the glowing documents regarding the IDS 64-bit port. My questions are fairly simple. What problems has anyone found with the lastest 64-bit releases? Are there any show-stopper situations? It appears most problems have been solved or are solvable. Please let me know regarding the downside of the 64-bit world. Thanks, John ------------------------------------------ John F. Coyle, Sr DBA Yankee Candle Co. We did encounter several bugs in the engine that were 64 bit specific. We also had issues with the availability of tools, such as dbcockpit, because they didn't ship with this release. When we got to 7.3, things seemed to be more stable. Several bugs were fixed that existed in 7.2x. All in all, the 64 bit platform was incredible, especially on the DEC Alpha's. The performance was absolutely great and was worth the headaches of 64-bit specific bugs. No show-stopper situations were ever really encountered. We did have more than the average number of Assertion failures, but the engine always came back up and we were able to continue processing. The crashes also seemed to be reduced when we went to 7.3. As far as I know you cannot use shared memory connection to ODS 64 bit , tools are are still in 32 bit . This is an issue if your app is on the same machine as your dbs . Also I done benchmarks using both , and unless you need shared memory > 2 gb I did not see performance increase . Other that 64 bit ODS runs fine (HP2250, hP-UX 11 ) MM John Coyle <JFC@yankeecandle.com> wrote in article <7k8ilp$718$1@news.xmission.com>... > > Greetings, > > I am in the beginning stages of moving my current > IDS 7.22 databases from an HP-UX 10.2 server to > another HP-UX machine. There are some 64 bit tools now available. These can be used to connect to 64 bit servers using shared memory.
