Ontape Question

Would it be pertinent to assume that this sort of logical log output (double logical logs) is the result of a long transaction? Ontape was doing a level zero backup. Normally there is just one logical log listed at the end of the backup. Please mount tape 1 on /dev/rmt0 and press Return to continue ... 10 percent done. 20 percent done. 30 percent done. 40 percent done. 50 percent done. 60 percent done. 100 percent done. Please label this tape as number 1 in the arc tape sequence. This tape contains the following logical logs: 36530 - 36532 ==================================================================== Harold Luse Phone: (970) 491-4120 Veterinary Teaching Hospital Fax: (970) 491-4123 Colorado State University Pager: (970) 229-8173 Fort Collins, Colorado USA E-mail: hluse@vth.colostate.edu ====================================================================
Actually it is just due to heavy activity. Looks like two logfiles
filled and a third was started before the ontape was finished copying
the logfiles. Probably the first was almost full and your logfiles are
rather large so the second filled while the first was being copied to
tape.

Hi,
I guess s.o. had an open transaction at the beginning
of your archive that was spanning 3 logical logs.
"ontape" archives its "needed logical logs" just to be
able to perform a rollback operation. Even if you never
backup your logical logs, "ontape" must be able to
restore a consistent database.
As long as you have more than 6 logical logs defined,
it's not a real "long transaction".
Best regards
