Is the current version of the SDK from IBM still 2.90? I'm using that, and I have a complicated query that takes > 10 minutes to run using this driver. I will also try the generic ODBC driver. How long does it take to run in a native connection like dbaccess or sqlcmd?
That will tell you whether the .NET driver is the problem or the query.

Latest is 2.90.TC5. Can be downloaded from http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/tools/csdk/ (Look at Bottom - right of page for download link) What exactly takes > 10 minutes ? just running the query ? or Fetching the rows ? If running the query is taking > 10 minutes , its likely that changing to ODBC driver is not going to do much. You need to tune your IDS instance in this situation. If fetching rows is taking too much of time , changing to ODBC driver should help. --- Joe S <joe_schofield@pamd.uscourts.gov> wrote: > Is the current version of the SDK from IBM still > 2.90? I'm not really sure at this point what is taking the time because I cannot get the query to finish. Part of the problem might be the machine itself and its configuration. What I was doing to experiment was run the query in Server Studio, then in a .NET web form. On our live box, the query is quick (about 4 seconds) using Server Studio. On my test box, the query was > 10 minutes and I stopped it before it finished. I then looked at the onconfig from the live box and tweaked my test box. The query then took 5 minutes in Server Studio against my test box. I then ran it in my .NET web form and timed out. I had set the timeout for 10 minutes. All of this was using the IBM.Data.Informix DLL. If it wasn't for the fact that the query ran ok in Server Studio, I would agree that it is the query and not the driver because I have tried other queries and SP's using the IBM DLL and they worked fine. I will break the query apart to see what is hanging it up. I then went to try the query using IBM's ODBC driver V 2.9.00.12699 to no avail. When I call the SP, it throws an exception "A syntax error has occurred". I'm also decently green with Informix which does not help. I'm ok with MS SQL, but this is a different animal and I'm still feeling my way through it. Thanks, Joe Amit Dandekar wrote: > Latest is 2.90.TC5. > Can be downloaded from > http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/tools/csdk/ > (Look at Bottom - right of page for download link) > > What exactly takes > 10 minutes ? > just running the query ? or Fetching the rows ? > > If running the query is taking > 10 minutes , its > likely that changing to ODBC driver is not going to do > much. You need to tune your IDS instance in this > situation. > > If fetching rows is taking too much of time , changing > to ODBC driver should help. > > > > > > --- Joe S <joe_schofield@pamd.uscourts.gov> wrote: > > > Is the current version of the SDK from IBM still > > 2.90?
