Not swap partitions per se; a tmpfs is an in-memory filesystem (kinda like a RAM disk in DOS)... >I've told our database administrator to use another filesystem for >now since there seems to be a bug in Informix software which prevents >it from using tmpfs (as well as NFS). I discovered this when I upgraded my workstation to 4.1.1 last year, and I reported it as a bug (#11383). However, it turns out that tmpfs filesystems do not support file and record locks, so we just can't use them for temp tables and such; there's nothing we can do about it. If you are using OnLine, I think you can use a tmpfs for DBTEMP, since no tables are built in the tmpfs. Attempts to create tables in tmpfs filesystems result in -229/-125 (or -261/-125) in "create locking" ports and -229/-22 in fcntl/flock ports. > || // // ,'/~~\\' Andy Toy, Systems Manager andy@mks.com -- Alan Denney "If that honey would come back aland@informix.com we would throw such a party {pyramid|uunet}!infmx!aland Drink, and cook the prodigal son Disclaimer: I am a Toon.
