When you add the service name in the services file, probably at the last line, don't forget the CR/LF: service1 9998/tcp <RETURN> service2 9999/tcp <RETURN> is correct, but if you type: service1 9998/tcp <RETURN> service2 9999/tcp (without the last RETURN key), 'service2' is not usable ! We lost a lot of hour with this :( David Derumier -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org] Sent: jeudi 2 juillet 1998 9:05 To: informix-list Subject: Ner Era again I was 'attempting' to install New Era 2.2 deployment yesterday (runtime). Installations wentwell, everything seemed to work. I set the SetNet settings to be correct and attempted to run the new era application on the pc. But I get the error 'Database Connect failure', 'Could Not Open Database' I double checked the setnet settings and they were correct. Them I remembered that I hadn't made an entry in the hosts file (I was connecting to a HP9000 running Informix SE). So I put the entry into hosts and still got the same error. I then remembered that I had forgotten the service (sqlexec) in the services file. I put that in and STILL got the same error. There is a pc next to the one I was working on that already has the new era runtime and the application on it, and this all works fine. I've checked the setup on there and its the same (or seems to be) as the pc I was trying to install on yesterday..... What else have I left out???? Cheers for any help Jamie
