Disk setup

Having wanted to use RAID1+0 at a customers I find this is not possible, as they are using Solstice to manage the disks and we can't set up enough slices to use their 6 9GB disks with it. Veritas is out of the question due to cost. So my thoughts now are to set up each disk (and it's mirror) with 4 2GB slices plus a 5th one to use the last bit of the disk and then use round-robin fragmentation to spread my large (to me but not to Art!) tables across the disks. I think I will also have to set up several temp dbspaces on different disks otherwise one will get hammered. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions? -- Surfer!
Remember that if you are using the entire disk for Informix, or at least want to, you will NOT be doing any archives using dump and so do not need to create the traditional BSD/Solaris partition #2 as the entire disk. This will give you another slice! Doing this makes Solaris sysadmins nervous but just get then some valium and keep going, it's fine, really! Art S.
